Volunteers must be able to recognize signs of a crisis and know how to handle it appropriately, including emergency contacts and involvement of mental health professionals. Support for Volunteers in the event of a crisis
Volunteers are the beating heart of our association, and for this we recognize the importance of their well-being. For this reason, we have established some basic guidelines to ensure that our volunteers are supported and healthy while they do their valuable work. Self-care is essential: we encourage each other to take care of ourselves physically, mentally and emotionally, and to establish healthy boundaries between our role as volunteers and personal life. Furthermore, peer support and supervision are essential as they allow us to share experiences, concerns and effective strategies.
We recently introduced volunteer check-in, which is a secure and private space where we can talk freely with a member of the board or a supervisor, and volunteer support groups, which are moderated and represent an important resource for providing support, training and peer-to-peer sharing of experiences.
We recognize the value of your volunteer efforts and are grateful for the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of people with bipolar disorder. If necessary, we encourage you to seek outside support from qualified professionals and use the community resources for your well-being. In addition, practicing stress management techniques regularly and carefully monitoring your well-being are practices that help you stay strong and support those we support. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for your commitment and for the fundamental role you play in improving the lives of those who need it.
