Our projects

The AIBP model translates into concrete initiatives in research, monitoring and the development of practical tools.

The projects currently underway form the first pillars of a broader programme, with Italy serving as a pilot context and a gradual expansion towards European collaboration.

National Survey on Care Practices and Experiences of Services

Led by the Italian Bipolar Association (AIBP), this pilot project is intended for future international expansion within the ENB network

This national initiative examines how psychiatric care pathways operate in practice, across the various stages of treatment. The project combines a structured survey, qualitative analysis of narratives and the reconstruction of care pathways to identify recurring patterns that are unlikely to emerge from administrative indicators alone.

The survey is not intended as a tool for reporting grievances, but as a means of large-scale observation and screening. It gathers information on access to care, changes in treatment, crisis management and follow-up, integrating quantitative data with anonymous descriptions of experiences.

The project follows a bottom-up epidemiological approach: recurring experiences reported by users are analysed to determine whether they indicate structural conditions that influence the continuity of care.

Italy serves as the pilot context. Within the European Network for Bipolar, the initiative is designed to evolve into a monitoring model adaptable to other healthcare systems.

The long-term objective is to promote service improvements based on observed evidence and to facilitate constructive dialogue between communities, professionals and institutions.

Study on Communication and Therapeutic Interaction

Qualitative research led by the Italian Bipolar Association (AIBP), a pilot project within the ENB network

This qualitative research programme analyses communication between people with bipolar disorder and healthcare professionals. The aim is to understand how communication influences trust, collaboration, treatment adherence and continuity of care at different stages of the disorder.

The first phase identified recurring themes and overarching themes emerging from patients’ narratives, highlighting communication patterns during diagnosis, changes in treatment, crisis management and follow-up.

The next phase involves in-depth interviews and focus groups to understand in greater detail when and why communication works or becomes difficult within the clinical pathway.

The project is designed to develop into an academic research programme and, through the European ENB network, to be progressively extended to other countries and healthcare contexts.

translated into educational resources, university activities and professional training, with theoretical and practical guidelines to improve the therapeutic alliance and mutual understanding between patients and healthcare professionals.
