The Italian Bipolar Association supports the proposed legislation on psychosocial wellbeing in the workplace

di wpadmin21/08/2025

The Italian Bipolar Association is actively involved in the progress of the new bill (AC 2309), which was presented to the Chamber of Deputies on 14 March 2025 by the Hon. Carmen Di Lauro and drafted in collaboration with Lorenzo Tedeschi, a young entrepreneur and activist who has long been committed to promoting psychological wellbeing in the workplace.

The proposal will be officially presented on 11 September 2025 in the press room of the Chamber of Deputies, and represents a concrete step towards tackling burnout, stress and work-related anxiety in a systematic rather than merely symbolic manner.

The key points of the bill

The draft bill introduces a number of key changes:

  1. Amendment of the Consolidated Law on Safety (81/08) to include mental health protection and psychological safety.
  2. Certification of psychosocial wellbeing in workplaces, modelled on the gender equality certification scheme.
  3. Tax incentives for certified employers, with an increase in corporate welfare thresholds (€1,500 per employee; €2,500 per employee with dependent children).
  4. Mandatory certification to maintain benefit corporation status and to participate in public procurement.

Why it is important

This proposal represents a “small but significant revolution” for the world of work: a first step towards organisations that not only ensure physical safety, but are committed to promoting mental health as a strategic priority, thereby protecting workers and reducing the social and economic costs associated with psychological distress.
