The MENCAP project represents a fundamental pillar of our commitment to defending the human rights of psychiatric patients. This initiative, initiated in collaboration with the MENCAP association and King’s College London, is an ambitious decade-long program aimed at promoting tangible and lasting change in the Italian healthcare system.
The activities of the MENCAP project are structured in several strategic and chronologically defined phases, including research and data collection, collaboration with prominent academic institutions, advocacy and awareness-raising, as well as the implementation of practical and tangible solutions.
Through this project, we aim not only to raise awareness and promote concrete political action but also to positively influence public debate and drive the regulatory and structural changes needed to ensure fair and respectful treatment for all individuals with psychiatric disorders.
Additionally, the MENCAP project offers a unique opportunity for multidisciplinary collaboration and exchange of knowledge and best practices with national and international partners. The active involvement of prestigious academic institutions such as King’s College London allows us to ensure that our actions are informed by the best available evidence and that the results of our research are recognized at an academic and institutional level.
Our action plan is composed of:
- Research and data collection: Initiation of an in-depth research process involving associations, users, and families to identify gaps in the Italian healthcare system.
- Collaboration with academic institutions: Establishing partnerships with academic institutions to conduct high-quality research and develop effective interventions.
- Advocacy and awareness-raising: Using data and evidence to promote concrete political actions and increase awareness of the needs of people with psychiatric disorders.
- Implementation of practical solutions: Focusing on implementing improvements in access to healthcare services and initiating awareness-raising initiatives on mental health.
- Multidisciplinary collaboration: Involving a wide range of perspectives and expertise, including patients, healthcare professionals, associations, and researchers, to ensure an inclusive and comprehensive approach.
